About the Course

While backcountry skiing/snowboarding certainly comes with its fair share of risk (which I’ll address below) the backcountry environment can be a powerful place to build confidence and a healthy community if provided with strong role models, the appropriate training, and a supportive peer group.  This class intends to provide all of these components. With an intentional focus on mental and physical well-being, leadership development and team-building, students will gain essential backcountry winter travel skills in becoming compassionate and competent leaders better equipped to manage group dynamics and make sound decisions regardless of the context.
